Arctic Monkeys Headline MTV Winter in Valencia

The third MTV Winter to be held and televised to millions of MTV viewers around the world takes place on 13 February in the wonderful City of Arts & Sciences in Valencia, Spain. It is usually a spectacular night and this year looks like it will be no exception with a great line up headed by the Arctic Monkeys, who are supported by the Mystery Jets, Lightspeed Champion and Fuzzy White Casters. Get there early as the event is free and people come from miles to see it.

Global Champions Tour - Show Jumping

8 to 10 May City of Arts and Sciences
Valencia has been chosen as host city to the Grand Prix of Spain when the Global Champions Tour travels here for the first time. This new 5* CSI takes place from the 8th to the 10th of May when the organisers, Oxer Sport, the leading company in the organization of equestrian events in Spain, will transform the water areas of the City of Arts and Sciences into a stunning arena. It all takes place over three days in early May and is open to the public.

Àgora and the Tennis Open 500 Valencia

Work is almost continuous on the new 'centrecourt' and multiuse space that will open on November 02 this year with the Valencia Tennis Open 500. At any time of the day or night there are builders and welders all over this incredible new Santiago Calatrava designed structure which forms yet another part of the City of Arts and Sciences.
Can't wait to see it open and functioning!

What a Weekend in Valencia City!

There was so much on in the city this weekend that it was hard to decide what to miss!
Friday Night was Eclèctic Nit at the City of Arts And Sciences, a mix of street theatre, spectacle and music from 7pm until the early hours of the morning. We had great fun watching flaming horses, performing snails, Japanese drummers, and then took our seats for DO-DO LAND de Puja, an aerial ballet to rock music. The highlight of the evening was an inspired performance from Cuban rappers Orishas.
Saturday was Formula 3 and GT racing at the new Valencia Urban Circuit. This weekend was the dress rehearsal for the Formula One Grand Prix in August. full report here
Saturday evening it was up to Canet beach to see how the Electrodomestico Festival looked. NOT VERY BUSY, we counted no more than 50 people at the live bit whilst we were there, shame, because the band playing whilst we were there were quite good.
Sunday evening it was back to City of Arts and Sciences for the Australian Pink Floyd show. The music was note perfect and excellent but the show lacked excitement and didn't take full advantage of the fantastic setting.

The Cure are first up for the MTV Winter shows in Valencia

The Cure play the City of Arts and Sciences in a free concert on the 05 March. The concert is the first of the MTV Winter concerts planned for the Calatrava Masterpiece over the next months. Entry will be free and MTV will broadcast this and other MTV Winter show live around the world.

Valencia's Market Garden

Go to any site on Valencia and somewhere you will see photos of Calatrava’s stunning City of Arts and Sciences (although they won’t all tell you that it was the late Félix Candela who designed the Oceonogràfic). A mixture of elegance in architecture and searingly modern scultpture, the complex has become the icon of the Valencia and is seen as one of the foremost examples of modern Spanish urban development, praised and pontificated over world-wide. What would surprise many, if the were to take a short walk beyond the El Saler shopping centre, opposite the CAC, is just how close they are to 'La huerta', Valencia’s market gardens that still supply much of the vegetables that feed the city. Walk along the narrow irrigation canals and turn your back on the urban landscape, and you could be deep in rural Spain of fifty years ago.
